By reason of these things, then, the whaling voyage was welcome; the great flood-gates of the wonder-world swung open.
- Herman Melville, Moby-Dick
As some know, my firm has been doing a good deal of advisory work in the maritime power industry. Typically there are three components: wind, wave, and tidal energy. These each offer huge promise. But the one that is yet least solved yet potentially most promising is harvesting moon power.
Tidal energy offers extraordinary promise. It is entirely predictable, for the next several millenia and then some. But the approaches taken so far are often so costly in terms of what they offer in return as to be take one's breath away. And many of the proposed solutions on drawing boards are nearly laughable.
What if we approached this problem from another direction?
