Offshore Wind Forum

June 15, 2017

Stuart Weyland-Smith attended the Offshore Wind Supply Chain Forum hosted by the MA Clean Energy Center at the Boston Marriott yesterday. Key speakers at the event included:

  • Secretary Matthew Beaton - MA Executive Office of Energy and Environment Affairs

  • Secretary Jay Ash - MA Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development

  • Representative Patricia Haddad - Speaker Pro Tem, MA House of Representatives

  • Jeff Grybowski - CEO, Deepwater Wind

  • Thomas Brostrom - GM North America, Danish Oil & Natural Gas

  • Erich Stephens - CEO, Vineyard Wind

Offshore wind is an established industry in Europe but has been slow to take off in US.  However, the impending release of a competitive RFP by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for 1,600MW of offshore wind energy should vastly help stimulate the supply chain in New England.

Offshore wind projects have a follow-on benefit for marine hydrokinetics players such as LPS by nurturing an ecosystem of suppliers and vendors in the marine energy sector. We heartily support the efforts of our governmental representatives and industry pioneers to get to work on driving down the cost of prosecuting offshore power.
